On July 25, a grassroots effort to rally support for Dick Allen’s election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame was held at Ashburn Field in Philadelphia.
A series of speakers — from the son of Phillies Hall of Famer Rich Ashburn to former Phillies broadcaster Chris Wheeler to Daily New columnist Stan Hochman — spoke eloquently about why they believe the former Phillies sluggers deserves to be enshrined in the Hall.
While his statistics were impressive, those who spoke tended to focus on Dick Allen’s integrity, compassion, and humility.
